Maybe it will improve over the year! // 21st, last day in Bangkok so we decide we should sleep in. Also because we stayed up to watch Brazil match there was no chance us getting up. Mark arrived! 2 became 3, we meet him as he gets of the bus. Whilst waiting, I had a chance to watch time pass by, its opportunity’s like this that you can really get a sense of how the city works. Traffic, crowds and hundreds of Thai people moving around to set up there stalls, the city ticks over like clockwork in a way that works for the people, it all fits together smoothly and as we head to the hotel to pack I will miss what interesting city and will surely come back to possibly sample a cockroach or too! We head off to Koh Chang early morning, not sure how quick the updates will come, so Good night and God bless.
19th – 20th June 2010 19th, up early enough compared to usual. We decided to venture beyond are limits, we hopped aboard the sky train on Sala daeng station, heading north towards Mochit. As we get off the train, we wonder if we will be able to find the weekend market, we head over to the side of the platform and looking out over Bangkok is a carpet of tin huts, as far as we could see. This is the weekend market, the biggest in Thailand. Sweating it out, as is normal for white boys like ourselves we make are way across the 5 lane highway and into the what can only be called a sauna, the market had a greenhouse type effect a serious design fault. 18th June 2010 Another good sleep, another day in Bangkok. We make are way out of the hotel to visit the Grand palace, unfortunately when we get into the taxi, he tellsus it is closed, he did however try his hardest to bring us any were, but we got out without a charge. Making are way to the sky train, i purchased a “croissant” to my surprise there was a hidden sausage inside, I also had a “milk” that tasted nothing like milk, more like a mixture of bread and white paint. Setting out across town we took another boat trip to a different temple on the map. At this point I will add the map we are currently using has gotten us lost numerous occasions, and today was no different there is many, many streets that just don’t exist on this map we have! As we jump from shadow to shadow avoiding the midday heat we stumbled across a smaller temple with a door open so in we went. 17th of June. Bangkok. 12 hours later, we arise from are pretty comfortable beds. Hungry, we decided to explore the hotel then look for some food, considering all we had to eat was a strange bag of Thai crisps. We unfortunately got caught up by discovering the swimming pool and gym, we decided to sculpt are bodies for an hour to help when we arrive at Koh Chang island, hopefully looking like David Hasselfof. As we were sitting by the pool an American couple, Jeff and Nicole who were in Bangkok for a wedding told us about a restaurant near the hotel called phling ping. We set about trying to find itunfortunately are direction skills were off, again and we couldn’t find it! Deciding to travel up the river to look for something in Koh San with a littleless Phling. The boat trip itself was an interesting experience, for about 25p we avoided the busy highways and got to view some of Bangkok’s interesting river side architecture. After a comfortable 11 hour flight, a respectable amount of sleep and some sort of chicken, we arrive safetly in Bangkok. Collect are oversized backpacks and hit the road. 150 Thai batt to Silom, bus AE3. As I sit on the bus, Chris asleep, trying to take in new surroundings, I quickly realise this isnt anything like we are used to. Health and Safety dosent exist, scooters weaving in and out of traffic, organised chaos. Onto the highway and above the sea of corrogated iron roofs you can see the temple spires splitting the riples of the houses. Last stop on the route and as we jump of are moving bus, Chang a skinny glasses thai/chinese man decides to show us are hotel. He waits for us and tells us were to watch the football. Chang leads us through busy tourist streets and down dark back allys. Eventually we arrive at a bar, get a drink, quickly scaning the room its obviously out of some sort of mafia red shirt establishment.
