Hoi An, Vietnam…

So….I’ve recently been offered to work with a new start up online travel magazine. It’s a pretty exciting opportunity because it’s talking about something I actually enjoy, to explore, to find something new, an experience unique from anyone else…to escape the monotony of a daily grind, whilst trying to find a memory or place that remains paradise… physically and mentally. “travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer”. After reading this on a good friends facebook I realised it’s so easy to get caught up with earning money and impressing the people next to you, we sometimes forget about the places around us. They blur into bland wallpaper and we lose sight of beauty. Travelling is the one thing that somewhat untangles that financial struggle, it changes the boring wallpaper. Pete Doherty

Hard to approach this subject, considering I don’t really know where I stand on “Pete Doherty” Anyway, I guess the best way to write this blog is by talking about his artwork. I went along to the Cob gallery in Camden and viewed some of Petes work. I met his manager and asked a few questions…. at first it kind of a strange room to walk into, cluttered with records, cameras and collectables spilling on the floor. Massive flags hanging from the celling and a whole load of other crap that any mental collector would be proud off. Pete Doherty is nuts. There’s no shock in that, no surprise that when you paint in your own blood someone isn’t going to say you have a few screws loose. Pete Doherty is talented, his work is influential, it has character, it also appears, to me anyway to be someone trying to express themselves. It’s like his work explains his mood… I guess the most controversial part of the work is obviously the bit he did’t even do. The bit he influenced someone else to create. The bridge on the river Kwai

“One day the war will be over. And I hope that the people that use this bridge in years to come will remember how it was built and who built it. Not a gang of slaves, but soldiers, British soldiers, Clipton, even in captivity.” Last year I was venturing around asia when I stumbled across a beautiful village called Kanchanaburi. The jolly frog was my humble abode, £2 a night did’t seem fair for such a perfect location. Sitting on a floating deck, watching the sunset, listening to the sound of a long tail boat churning up the river. Time seems to stop and you realise, all that happens in the world, all of the things that annoy you or make you unhappy, don’t seem to matter. For what it’s worth, I think it’s important to hold onto these moments, because when you look back they may well lift us out of the trivial mess we get caught up in. Kanchanaburi has claims to a movie that was on today, “the bridge on the river Kwai”. I was taken back by how much of a ‘movie’ it was. A doctor always plays God

Im really not to sure where I heard the statement recently, but its an interesting one at that. There has always been a stigma or stereotype around people that “play God”. Movies and Tv shows have documented how certain experiments have boundaries, they highlight issues for example abortion or cloning…then as a good bit of television usually does, it sit’s on the fence, trying not to offend anyone. I’m pretty sure I heard the phrase “doctor playing God” comment on a TV show recently, it was talking about how even the slightest bit of medicine alters your life. It was saying that as soon as we go to hospital, and a doctor gives us say antibiotics, that the doctor, in turn, is playing God. They step in and change what might have been. They decide what medicine or treatment would be best for the individual concerned. The reason why I find the statement interesting is that it’s kind of true, say you go to 12 doctors with the same problem, the chances of them all saying the exact same thing and giving you the exact same medicine and exact same treatment is probably slim enough. Christmas Blues

So, the middle of the week, half way between christmas and New year, the family celebrations finished and turkey striped naked, bones scattered amongst the debris that is the christmas. Wrapping papper torn, once in glorious form fitting splendor, protecting the eager eye from knowing the identity of what lay beneath. 362 days to go until the same thing happens, can’t wait. I want to keep the next few blogs quite short, mainly because I haven’t been updating them as regularly as I would like, and if my grammar is to improve I need to be more dedicated. So what a great time of year for me to start a resolution?! A time of year when we decorate a tree, cover it with sparkly stuff, add some chocolate and then put it away. Things I like about Christmas 2011 Church…reminders that its not always about sparkly stuff… I spent time with family and friends Christmas trees MacBook Pro Ate approx. 400 cocktail sausages Won over 70% of my christmas cracker pulling battles. Tele

Its official, TV, the box, tele, whatever way you put it is terrible and if I’m honest pretty good still. What I think is happing is the crap stuff is getting crappier and the good stuff, well its still there, some of it gently improving.Crap Stuff X factor Jordie Shore Made in Chelsea Desperate Scousewives (what inspired this rant) Good Stuff Frozen Planet (that’s it) I don’t understand first of all why people watch this rubbish, but I suppose it fills a hole. If this is the reason then I would advise filling it with something more inspirational, everything above involves some form of fame addictive crave with never-ending tears!
